1. Camilla is a fan of Silver Swans
This is a dance class held by the Royal Academy of Dance for the over 55s. Camilla occasionally has a teacher hold sessions at Clarence House in London. “We crash about very happily and it’s great fun. It’s jolly hard work – you get really involved and I find it’s a really good way to exercise,” she said.
2. She attended a Swiss finishing school
Between 1963 and 1964, Camilla attended the Mon Fertile finishing school in Switzerland. Around 40 girls per year were taught French, sewing, typing and etiquette. In 2009, Charlotte Ericson, a contemporary of Camilla’s was reported saying she was a typical teenage girl “into the Beatles, hair, make-up and clothes”. “We would stay up late talking about the boys we fancied and eating Swiss chocolate and giggling.”
3. The Oscar Wilde connection
“I have a drinks party each year to mark Oscar Wilde’s birthday and the Duchess of Cornwall sometimes comes, not only because she admires the poetry and plays of Oscar Wilde, but more specifically because she has an interesting connection with Oscar Wilde,” says Gyles Brandreth. “The Duchess’s great-grandfather, Alec Shand, was secretly engaged to a beautiful girl called Constance Lloyd – who broke off their engagement to marry Oscar Wilde.”
4. Teddy where?
She buried her younger sister’s teddy bear, Tiddy Bar, in the garden of her grandparent’s home Hall Place in Hampshire, as an act of revenge after a childhood argument. He was never found.
