T

wenty people who attended a party in the basement of a north London restaurant have been issued with fixed penalty notices for breaching strict Tier 4 rules.

Police were called to the venue on Haverstock Hill, Belsize Park, after receiving reports of multiple revellers entering.

Officers attended and found 10 men and 10 women in the basement on Sunday, December 27.

All were given fines for breaching Covid-19 regulations which ban households mixing indoors to stop the spread of the virus.

Bodycam footage of officers entering the premises was released by the Metropolitan Police on Saturday.

Around 217 fixed penalty notices were issued with a further five people reported to magistrates for consideration for a £10,000 fine.

In Essex, officers dished out more than £18,000 in fines to organisers of unlicensed music events attended by hundreds of people in breach of lockdown rules.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs at the ticketed rave complete with bars, DJ decks and Portaloos.

Met Inspector Alex Hope-Rollinson said: “To date, over 70,000 people in the UK have been lost to coronavirus.

“Breaches of coronavirus regulations such as these are selfish, thoughtless and ultimately put the safety and health of our community at serious risk.

“I implore individuals to make themselves familiar with the Tier 4 rules and absolutely avoid attending any gatherings which are in breach of those rule – it is vital that we work together to avoid overwhelming our NHS in the coming months.”
