2020 Perth Royal Show to go ahead | Mandurah Mail

Good news WA, and especially those who love a day out at slideshow alley – the Perth Royal Show will go ahead this year.

The show will look a little different than usual, but will have as muchagriculture, entertainment, displays, animals, food and fireworks as ever.

In an effort to assist the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia with recovery from the impacts of COVID-19, the state government has provided $2.1 million to support this year’s show.

The one-off funding support measure includes a $450,000 grant from Lotterywest and a 25 per cent reduction in ticket prices for family and adult entry.

The show, which will be held from September 26 to October 3, will have a particular focus on supporting and showcasing industry sectors which have been impacted by COVID-19 from tourism to small business, arts, entertainment and non-for-profit organisations.

There will be daily performances from local arts and entertainment groups and displays featuring the work non-for profit organisations do and how the public can support them.

There will be a pavilion dedicated to encouraging visitors to ‘Wander out Yonder’ and plan a trip to regional WA and attendees can also take the opportunity to ‘Thank a Farmer’ by leaving a note of support at the show.

Premier Mark McGowan said this year’s show would provide an opportunity for West Australians to come together and reward themselves for their efforts in fighting COVID-19.

“Being able to hold the 2020 Perth Royal Show recognises the work we have all done in restricting the spread of COVID-19 across our State, and is a great achievement for all Western Australians to be proud of and celebrate,” he said.

“I encourage everyone to visit this year’s Royal Show for an enjoyable day out with family and friends and to support the businesses and industry sectors recovering from the impacts of COVID-19.”

Agriculture and Food Minister Alannah MacTiernan also encouraged the community to come out and enjoy and support the event.

“The Perth Royal Show provides a profound connect between country and city people,” she said.

“COVID-19 has highlighted how important our agricultural and regional industries are to Perth and to WA.

“Come to the show this year – celebrate the fact that WA can stage this event and connect with our fabulous farmers.”
