20p on sale on eBay for £950 – for a rare reason

A 20p coin has gone up for sale on eBay for an incredible £950.

A seller has listed the coin claiming it is incredibly rare.

But why could the 20p be worth such an astronomical amount of money? Well the seller, Lee Burgess from Yorkshire, claims the coin has a rare minting error meaning it has no date on either side like a typical coin will have.

And it is not the first time they have gone for hundreds of pounds.

The seller said: “This is a genuine 20p British coin that has a rare minting error where it has no date on either side.

“A mule.. they used the new die on the rev which was the Royal Shield of Arms and then they used the older version of the 20p coin obverse which has no date.

“After a while the ROYAL MINT found their own error and used the correct dies. there were lots put into circulation and this is one of them RM are buying them back actually to put into their OWN presentation cases.
