27 counties in England set to roast in next UK heatwave as 30C returns

27 counties in England are set to be roasted in the next UK heatwave as 30C heat returns to the country within days. Maps and charts, from WX Charts, which uses Met Desk data, show a return of sweltering conditions from next week.

From early evening on August 7, temperatures will rise to 30C and the weather could stick around for 72 hours, with a swathe of counties in the south of the country set to benefit.

Counties which are set to be hit by temperatures over 30C include the West Midlands conurbation (including Birmingham) as well as Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset, and Devon, Cornwall, Hampshire and Berkshire.

Other counties set to benefit include Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Greater London, Middlesex, Sussex, Kent, Essex, Hertfordshire, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.

Huntingdonshire and Rutland complete the list. James Madden, from Exacta Weather, said: “The upcoming week will now see a largely high-pressure-driven weather pattern continuing to establish itself across our shores before taking more of a stronghold with significantly rising temperatures to very hot or even extreme values as we head into next weekend and the early part of August.

“Initially, parts of the south and southeast of England will benefit from these high pressure rises to begin with, and these parts are likely to see lots of dry and sunny weather with temperatures reaching or exceeding the mid 20s in the warmest spots from tomorrow onwards (Monday).

“Elsewhere, it is likely to see temperatures approaching, touching or exceeding the 20C mark to begin with and in the best of the developing sunshine.

“Despite the warm to very hot week in the making, some showers and cloudy weather and potential rumbles of thunder may also exist to begin with in places, particularly the further north and west you are, and around Thursday/Friday could briefly prove to be mixed and or cloudy in places much further north.

“However, by next weekend and on and around Saturday or Sunday and for several days into the following week, we are now highly likely to see these high pressure and temperature rises taking that stronghold to deliver some very hot to even extreme temperatures across many parts of the UK and Ireland.

“This will be a few days outside our several months ahead and unchanged projections of July 23-28 for this to occur, although better to be slightly late than not at all and the current expected weather pattern is still taking shape in the week starting 28th July on our part and is also something we have kept others continuously updated on.”
