The U.S. Postal Service has long proclaimed that “neither snow, nor sleet nor dark of night” would stay its carriers from their appointed rounds. And, in a phenomenally inane 1997 movie, “The Postman,” actor/director Kevin Costner even painted the mailman as the lynchpin of civilization.
