Michigan Looks Beyond Income, Narrows Food Stamps Eligibility

Beginning Oct. 1, Michigan food stamps recipients will have to pass more stringent requirements to be eligible for benefits. Income alone won’t determine food stamps benefits. Ownership of certain assets will be factored in, starting with new cases. Current recipients will need to claim certain assets when their cases come up for review (generally every six months).
