Royal Oak — Clark French remembers co-workers scattering like deer from a “popping” noise inside the Royal Oak Post Office 20 years ago today. The morning of Nov. 14,’91, something French and other postal employees had feared for weeks appeared: Thomas Paul McIlvane, a disgruntled, recently fired co-worker armed with a sawed-off .22-caliber rifle.
