Price of 1st class stamps to go up to 49 cents in January

On the same day it hired a reseearcher to determine the future of postage stamps, the cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service plans to raise the cost of mailing a letter in the United States by 3 cents, to 49 cents, in January, the agency announced on Wednesday.
