Royal Mail investigation after letters and parcels go missing in Plymouth

The Royal Mail has confirmed it taking an investigation into missing post “very seriously” after residents received letters months late.

It is believed that Barne Barton residents had been experiencing issues receiving letters and parcels over recent months, with little explanation as to where their post was going.

While the postal service has not revealed the circumstances around the problem, it confirmed that this is believed to be an isolated incident.

A letter to residents stated: “Recovered mail found in our network.

“I am writing to you to apologise for the delay caused to the attached mail which has recently come to light following an internal investigation.

 

“I’d like to offer my sincere apologies for any inconvenience or distress you may experience as a result of receiving this mail after such a long time. In Royal Mail we take the delay of mail very seriously. The matter a currently under investigation and we will be taking all steps necessary to prevent a recurrence of this incident.

The letter residents in Barne Barton have been receiving

“I’m very sorry we’ve let you down on this occasion and I hope you will accept my apologies for any concern this incident may cause.

“If you have any queries relating to this incident, our Customer Service Team can be contacted via royalmail.com/contactus or by calling 03457 740 740.  Please retain a copy of the delayed envelope and a copy of this correspondence for future reference.”

 

A spokesman for Royal Mail told Plymouth Live: “We would like to apologise for any delays residents may have experienced in receiving mail in the Plymouth area.

“We are carrying out an investigation into how this isolated incident happened. Every item of mail is important to Royal Mail.

“We appreciate this has been inconvenient for impacted customers and we would like to reassure them that we are treating the matter very seriously.

 

“We can confirm that all outstanding items of mail have now been delivered. All customers with any concerns about their mail should contact customer services on 03457 740 740.”
