Zara Tindall takes the driving seat as she becomes the first royal to appear on Top Gear with her husband Mike as a passenger

She is a member of the British royal family, an equestrian and Olympian.

And Zara Tindall can add Top Gear driver to her long list of credentials as she is the first royal to ever take part in the BBC motoring show – that is set to air on Sunday night.

TV royalty: Zara Tindall, 38, is the first royal to ever take part in BBC’s Top Gear, as she joins her husband Mike Tindall, 40, on the popular motor show

Proving she is not one to shy away, the elegant royal whizzes around the course to then spin off the track and onto the grass, as her rugby player husband directs her: ‘No lifting, no lifting!’

As the couple watch back the dramatic scenes on the show, Zara retorts to her beau: ‘That was your “no lifting.”‘

For her Top Gear debut, the mother-of-two rocked a pair of leather leggings and a blue blouse printed with an abstract pink and black design.

She styled her blonde tresses into a blow-dried hairdo and tucked one side behind her ear to expose her dangling gold earrings.

Mike, who wed Zara in July 2011, kept it laid-back in a navy blue knit and dark jeans for the appearance.

Elsewhere on the episode, the daredevil duo manoeuvre a vehicle through narrow bollards and go head-to-head in the Reasonably Fast Car segment.

An onlooker, who watched Zara speed around the racing track for the fun fuelled show told Mail On Sunday: ‘She really went for it. She came off the track three or four times.’

‘But she wasn’t scared and showed some real bottle. It was very quick for a wet lap.’

The source also shared that the husband and wife put on a tactile display.

‘They are really affectionate for a couple who have been married for a few years.’

They added: ‘They were always hugging and kissing each other.’

Top Gear is on BBC2 on Sunday at 8pm.
