Details released about alleged ‘brick’ attack which left street covered in blood

A man remains in hospital after a being reportedly hit with a brick and stabbed in the chest in an attack in Stockton.

Cleveland Police has now released details following an alleged assault in the Newtown area on Saturday night.

Blood was left splattered over the pavement on Durham Road, opposite the Royal Mail Sorting Office after the alleged brawl.

The force said it was called to a dispute between two men at 11.05pm.

A spokeswoman said: “A 36-year-old man remains in hospital receiving treatment for stomach injuries and is in a stable condition.

“A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.

“He remains in custody on Monday as enquires continue.”

An eyewitness told Teesside Live on Sunday: “Two men were involved. The injured man was hit over the head with a brick and then stabbed in the chest with a bottle.

“The incident started in a house close by and spilled into the street.”

A police cordon was set up as Crime Scene Investigation officers probed the scene of the attack.

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed it was called at 11.03pm to reports of a possible assault and took one patient to James Cook University Hospital.
