Meghan did not snub Donald Trump during his UK trip, a source close to the Duchess of Sussex says

The Duchess of Sussex did not ‘snub’ Donald Trump during his UK visit as she would never let her ‘personal feelings come in the way of duty,’ a source says

  • Meghan Markle, 37, was nowhere to be seen during Donald Trump’s visit in June
  • Some speculated she snubbed him because he called her ‘nasty’ ahead of visit
  • Source claimed royal would’ve attended engagement but she was on maternity

Meghan Markle did not snub President Donald Trump during his latest visit to the UK and would have attended had she not been looking after her son, a source close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has revealed.

The mother-of-one, 37, has kept a low profile since the birth of Archie Harrison on 6 May, and was not seen during the US President and his wife Melania’s recent visit on June 3 where they met with several members of the royal family in London.

At the time, rumours swirled that the Duchess did not want to meet Trump, who called her ‘nasty’ in an interview after hearing she had previously criticised him during the 2016 presidential campaign.

‘Had Meghan not been on maternity leave, she would have been there alongside Harry,’ said a source, speaking to Vanity Fair.

‘There was no snub, this wasn’t personal. She would never let personal feelings come in the way of duty.’

During his stay, the US leader was photographed with the Queen, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, but Meghan, who is on maternity leave with Archie, was nowhere to be seen.

Harry also joined Trump for lunch at Buckingham Palace on the first day of the state visit.

However, in 2016, Meghan called Trump ‘misogynistic’ and ‘divisive,’ and when asked about these comments by The Sunthe President said: ‘I didn’t know that. What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty.’

He went on to say he was sure Meghan would make a ‘very good’ American Princess.

But while she kept away from the royal engagements in Buckingham Palace and Winfield House in early June, she made an appearance at the ceremony of Trooping the Colour later that same week to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday.

She arrived at the event with Kate and Her Majesty in a horse and carriage and happily waved at members of the public from the balcony.

More recently, the Duchess attended a baseball match between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees on 29 June in London.

Meghan, who took a night off from caring for baby Archie, was pictured beaming next to Prince Harry.

The two put on a very tactile display and looked as happy and in love as ever.

Meghan will make a few other public appearances in the upcoming months, but won’t be back attending her royal duties until later this year.
