Traffic chaos on M8 in centre of Glasgow after Royal Mail truck smash

A Royal Mail lorry crashed on the M8 in the centre of Glasgow causing chaos for commuters during rush hour.

The crash happened just after 6.30pm at Junction 15 Cathedral, close to the city’s Royal Infirmary and traffic backed up on the motorway westbound close to the exit slip road.

The lorry’s cabin appeared to have separated from its base following the accident.

Emergency services rushed to the scene as the fire service helped with the recovery of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle has been taken to hospital but there are no updates on his condition.

Emergency services worked quickly to clear up the accident scene

 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “About 6.30pm on Tuesday 23 July 2029, police, fire and ambulance services responded to a report a lorry had gone over onto its side on the M8 westbound near to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

“The man that was driving the lorry has been taken to hospital. His condition at this time is unknown.

“Police are at at the scene and recovery of the vehicle is awaited. The westbound carriageways of the motorway are closed at present.”

It follows an earlier smash on the M8 outside Edinburgh between two vehicles which led to the road being closed for well over an hour.
