Cousins Julie Hicks and Marion Perkins picked up a particularly prestigious trophy last week, 45 years after their grandma had done exactly the same.
The pair joined fellow Moulton Harrox Bowls Club member Chris Jackson to be crowned Lincolnshire county champions by winning the three bowl rinks Thornally Trophy.
After winning through to the last four of the competition played at Boultham Park in Lincoln the trio took on M Regan, C Horne and J Wressell of Cemetery Road in Scunthorpe over 18 rinks.
In an incredibly tight game it was nip and tuck all the way through with Hicks, Perkins and Jackson two shots adrift going into the last end.
With Moulton holding one shot and possibly two more, they had to wait and watch for Cemetery Road to play the last bowl and a measure before finally being declared winners 14-13.
In the final the trio came up against Olive Wells, Mary Johnson and Patricia Scholey of Horncastle.
It proved to be a worthy final and in a nail-biting finish Moulton picked up two shots on the last end to force an extra end.
The Moulton trio held their nerve once again in the decider as they got the one shot needed to pick up their first county championship title and the Thornally Trophy.
They lifted the trophy exactly 45 years since Hicks and Perkins’ grandma Olive Biggadike had done the same alongside and M Cottam and V Grooby for Royal Mail Cart, Spalding.
There were a host of successes for bowlers from the Spalding and District League.
