Brexit news: Leaver launches brutal attack on Heidi Allen becoming Prime Minister | Politics | News

Mr Young was writing in the Daily Telegraph about the chances of a Government of National Unity. In the event of Prime Minister Boris Johnson losing a vote of no confidence, there will be 14 days in which the current government or an alternative government could prevent a snap election if they win an explicit vote of confidence under the Fixed Terms Parliament Act. With Labour’s Rebecca Long-Bailey reaffirming her parties refusal to join a national Government, Channel 4 News’ Cathy Newman suggested former Tory MP Heidi Allen as a potential leader.

Mr Young questioned: “The same Heidi Allen who, as acting leader of said entity, couldn’t even hold together a coalition of 11 MPs?”

He then dismissed her chances of getting a majority in the Commons to back her in a vote of confidence: “The same Heidi Allen who has been pilloried by Labour MPs for voting for £12 billion of welfare cuts in 2015?”

Ms Allen became politically active after the 2011 London riots and was a councillor in St. Albans for 18 months before becoming MP for South Cambridgeshire in May 2015.

She was elected to the Work and Pensions Select Committee but never held a Cabinet or ministerial position.

Ms Allen voted in favour of triggering Article 50.

She also voted four times for holding the referendum in the first place across 2015 and 2016.

Ms Allen has previously worked in positions for ExxonMobil and Royal Mail as well as her family’s classic motorcycle paints business, RS Bike Paints.

According to her website, she possesses degrees in astrophysics and law.
