Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are once again in the news after their recent trips around Europe in private jets.
Many took online to disgrace the royal couple for vacation trips that allegedly generated about seven tonnes of CO2, despite their claims for caring about climate change.
After the royal couple received backlash for taking a private jet from England to Ibiza, and then from England to Nice, Sir Elton John decided to chime in. He took to Instagram to claim the private jets were not only provided by him, but also were ‘carbon neutral’…
“After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home,” he wrote. “To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight. To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint™”
But wait! There’s more…
Greenpeace UK Chief Scientist Doug Parr said that those private jets were not exactly ‘carbon neutral’, because “they’re not taking out CO2.”
“In our world, where we need to get to net zero CO2, they don’t constitute equivalence,” Parr said. “They’re not wrong things to be done, but they’re not the answer that’s meaningful in terms of the climate challenge we face.”
According to the Daily Mail, if a tree were planed today, it would take about 320 years for it to consume the carbon from the royal couple’s recent flights.
