IF you’re expecting mail or an important delivery this weekend, you might need to plan ahead or make alternative arrangements.

While many use the weekend to tick off life admin tasks, it’s worth finding out the changes to deliveries and store opening hours before it’s too late.

Royal Mail posties deliver letters and parcels six days a week, Monday to Saturday.

But there are no deliveries or collections on bank holiday Monday, August 27.

However, things will return to normal from Tuesday, August 28.

The website reads: “The Royal Mail will not be collecting or delivering post on the August bank holiday Monday – August 27. But everything will go back to normal on Tuesday, August 28.

“We deliver and collect your mail on most days of the year, including Saturdays. However, we don’t usually deliver or collect on bank and public holidays.”

No collections or deliveries will be happening across England, Wales, Northern Ireland or most parts of Scotland.

Postcode areas EH28 and EH52 will continue to receive deliveries but there will be no collections.
Normal collections and deliveries will continue in the EH43-EH46, EH51, G, KW15-KW17, KA1-KA10, KA11-KA18, KA20-KA30, KY11-KY12, KY99, ML1-ML6, ML8-ML11, PA1-PA20, PA22-PA28, PA30-PA32, PA34, PA37-PA38, PA42, PA45 and PA60, PH1-PH2, PH14, TD1, TD7-TD9, TD12 and ZE postcode areas.

Is the Post Office open on bank holiday Monday?

Usually, the Post Office closes its doors on bank holidays.

Selected local branches inside convenience stores may be open, however.

We’d recommend checking your local branch’s opening times to be sure – you can find your local Post Office branch here.

Opening times do vary from store to store.

Supermarkets, retail stores & IKEA

For those us who use the extra few days of the holiday to tick off life admin tasks, DIY projects or just to stock up on groceries, then it’s worth knowing where and when to shop.

All Tesco stores will be open this bank holiday weekend, with normal hours on the Saturday and Sunday.

As a general guide, Express stores will be open as normal on the bank holiday Monday, with most larger stores open between 9am and 6pm.

Some of these big stores may open their doors at 8am, with some extending their hours to 8pm.

The majority of Tesco Extra stores in London will open from 8am to 10pm.

However, the opening times on the Monday can vary between stores, so customers are advised to check the supermarket’s Store Locator ahead of the weekend.

Some Asda supermarkets in England and Wales will have reduced opening hours on Monday, with business as usual for Scottish stores.

Most Aldi stores will be open on the August bank holiday Monday.

All Sainsbury’s stores in Scotland and Northern Ireland will be open for business as usual over the bank holiday weekend.

However, English and Welsh customers can expect changes to opening hours on the bank holiday Monday.

Most Lidl stores will be open as usual throughout the bank holiday weekend.

And for those looking to get around to doing the home improvements you’ve been meaning to do, most IKEA stores will be open this bank holiday Monday, but some will be closing earlier.

We advise erring of the side of caution by checking the Ikea Store Locator on their website.

And it’s good news for shoppers, too.

Most Debenhams stores will be open on bank holiday Monday, as well as the majority of Matalan stores.

Ordinarily, most Primark stores are open between the hours of 9am and 7pm, with the exception of their flagship Oxford Street stores, which are open from 8am to 10pm.

It is likely that most of their UK stores will be trading on bank holiday Monday as usual, though some stores may have revised opening times.
