Snail mail! Man speaks of his shock and amusement after a postcard arrives at his home 29 YEARS late
- Was intended for Ms Clare Gale who lived in the Grimsby home until 1990
- Sent by her niece and her partner on August 28, 1990 from Brecon in Wales
- Tom Parker received it 29 years later after Ms Gale had moved into a care home
- Claims he never met her and wants to track her down and show it finally arrived
A man was stunned after receiving a postcard that was sent to his home nearly thirty years ago.
Tom Parker, from Grimsby in Bradley, received the mail at his home last week that had originally been sent three years before he actually moved into his home.
The card was originally sent on August 28, 1990 from Brecon in North Wales, and was addressed to a Ms Clara Gale, who lived in the house until 1990, before she was moved to a care home.
Tom Parker was astonished to receive a postcard from Brecon in Wales sent nearly thirty years ago to the previous home-owner Ms Clara Gale before she went into a care-home
‘The weather has turned out lovely’: A heartfelt message was written by Suzie and Brian for their aunt in August 1990
The postcard was sent to the woman by her niece Suzie and her partner Brian, while they were enjoying a holiday at a campsite in Wales.
It reads: ‘Dear Aunty Clara, this is the view we have from our campsite in Wales. The weather has now turned out lovely and the people and surrounding areas are very nice. Lots of love Suzie and Brian.’
Mr Parker, who now lives in the house where the postcard was sent, says he has never met the lady who lived in the property before him.
Mr Parker ‘really hopes’ he can track down the previous home-owner and show her the card ‘eventually got here in the end’
Picture perfect: The Riverside Caravan Park in Talgarth, Brecon, is captured in the postcard which could have been ‘sitting in some old postie’s bag’
He said: ‘I honestly can’t think about what the hold up might have been, it could have been sitting there in some old postie’s bag and only just been found, or perhaps it got lost in the system.’
The home-owner claims the Ms Clara Gale had very little family and once niece so he assumes she sent the postcard.
He added: ‘I really hope that we can track down the lady who sent the card and show her that it eventually got here in the end, even if it is 29 years late.’
A Royal Mail spokesperson said it is ‘difficult’ to speculate what happened to the mail but suggests someone put it back in the postal system recently.
They ‘regularly check’ all delivery offices and clear the processing machines daily – and then the item will be delivered to the address on the card.
