Elton John Royal Mail Stamp Set Celebrates His Iconic Life and Career

Sir Elton John has led an unbelievable life that borders on “ridiculous” (in his own words!), so it’s only fitting that he has been given a compliment of the highest degree.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Elton is the focus of a special new set of stamps from the Royal Mail, celebrating iconic moments throughout his incredible life and career. In doing so, John became the first living artist given his or her own Royal Mail stamp set and just the second solo act ever — following David Bowie‘s posthumous collection in 2017.

Via Elton’s website:

Eight stamps showcase some of Elton’s most admired and iconic albums:Honky Château; Goodbye Yellow Brick Road; Caribou; Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy; Sleeping With The Past; The One; Made In England and Songs From The West Coast.

Completing the set, four stamps, presented in a Miniature Sheet, show Elton in action performing live across five decades: Hammersmith Odeon, London, 1973; Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, 1975; Diamond Jubilee Concert, Buckingham Palace, London, 2012 and Madison Square Garden, New York, 2018.

The ever-humble Elton issued this as a statement about the news:

“To say I was surprised when Royal Mail got in touch is an understatement. Never did I think I’d appear on a stamp…! It’s wonderful, a great honour.”

The stamp set is available in a variety of special collector’s versions and gift packs at this link.

This comes at a busy time for Elton John, as his Rocketman biopic recently hit home video/digital platforms, his official memoir is coming out this fall and his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour continues for the foreseeable future — visit his tour page for further details.
