Burnham-On-Sea street’s mail deliveries re-start ten days after dog attacks postie

A group of Burnham-On-Sea residents who have been left without postal deliveries for ten days after a postal delivery worker was attacked by a dog have finally had their service restored.

Royal Mail halted post deliveries at 12 properties in Caernarvon Way during late August after one of their staff was bitten.

Royal Mail spokesman Henry Perry told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week that it only “suspends deliveries as a last resort.”

He added: “We know that the vast majority of dog owners are very responsible and keep their pets under control. However, last year, there were 2,484 dog attacks on postmen and women in the UK.”

“We continue to appeal to dog owners and their families to help reduce the numbers of attacks, particularly at the door and in the garden. Royal Mail only suspends deliveries as a last resort, when the safety of our staff is at risk.”

“As of Saturday 31st August, deliveries to all but two properties in Caernarvon Way have been reinstated.”

“We will resume deliveries to the remaining two properties in the street after we have carried out a risk assessment and consider it safe enough for our staff.”

“Anyone impacted by this suspension with concerns about their mail can contact our Customer Services team on 03457 740740.”

Royal Mail delivered letters to those homes affected to warn them of the suspension of the delivery service.

Nonie Bridgewater, a resident who lives in Caernarvon Way, says some residents were left upset after having no post delivered to their homes between August 21st and August 31st, forcing them to go into the Burnham delivery office to collect it.
