More details emerge about child rushed to Hull Royal after ‘falling from wall’

More details have been released after a child was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary on Saturday evening by helicopter.

Hull Live told how the injured child had been taken to Hull Royal Infirmary. At the time, it was believed the child may have fallen from a wall.

But Hull Coastguard Rescue Team have confirmed the child had actually collided with a wall on his bike and been thrown over the other side.

They were then paged to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service with the recovery of the child near East Halton.

The team responded and, once on scene, found the casualty was already with the Cleethorpes Coastguard Team and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.

They say, as the coastguard helicopter arrived and it was deemed there were enough personnel on scene to assist with the “extraction” of the casualty, the Hull team retasked to man the landing site at Hull Royal Infirmary, ready for their arrival.

They say the child was recovered to the aircraft and flown to Hull Royal Infirmary where he was transferred to a waiting ambulance before the team stood down and returned to station.

Humberside Police were also in attendance.

Posting on Facebook, the Hull Coastguard Rescue Team wrote: “Call out 07/09/19. Paged to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service with the recovery of a child near East Halton who had collided with a wall on his bike and been thrown over the other side.

“The team responded and, once on scene, found the casualty was already with the Cleethorpes Coastguard Team and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.

“As the Coastguard SAR helicopter arrived and it was deemed there were enough personnel on scene to assist with the extraction of the casualty, the Hull team retasked to man the landing site at Hull Royal Infirmary, ready for their arrival.

“The child was recovered to the aircraft and flown to Hull Royal Infirmary where he was transferred to a waiting ambulance.

“The team then stood down and returned to station.

“Humberside Police also in attendance.”

Speaking while the incident was ongoing on Saturday evening, a spokeswoman for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed it was in attendance and was called shortly after 7pm.

She said: “We have got three appliances there and we are just assisting the ambulance service.

“We are still at the scene.

“We were sent to the East Halton area along the coast but we didn’t get a definite location.”

The spokeswoman confirmed a Tweet from the fire service, which stated that What3words had been used to help them locate an address to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service to rescue a “casualty” on the banks of the River Humber near East Halton, was the same incident.

The Tweet said: “CONTROL – @what3words used to help us locate an address to assist @EMASNHSTrust and @MCA_media to rescue a casualty on the banks of the River Humber near East Halton #RedWatch.”

It later Tweeted: “Fantastic to see all agencies working together and delivering rescue support @MCA_media @EMASNHSTrust.”
