Royal Mail workers in Burnham-On-Sea consider strike action

Burnham-On-Sea Royal Mail workers have met union leaders ahead of a national strike ballot.

Members of the CWU union are gearing up for a major battle this autumn, saying that Royal Mail bosses want to force through an array of ‘attacks on working conditions’.

They are intended to transform Royal Mail into a company similar to parcel delivery companies such as DPD and Hermes.

However, posties in Burnham and other areas fear they would be on much worse terms and conditions.

Rob Wotherspoon, CWU Branch Secretary, has visited Burnham-On-Sea Sorting Office, as pictured, to hold a gate meeting with over 40 staff.

He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The members know what’s at stake. This is not just a strike about pay and conditions — this is an attempt to run down and break up the business.”

The strike ballot is set to run from Tuesday 17 September until Tuesday 8 October.

It could lead to postal strikes in our area on Black Friday and over the Christmas period.
