Looking for extra cash for Christmas? From Argos to Primark

CHRISTMAS is around the corner so students or anyone else who wants some extra cash in their pocket should be applying for these seasonal roles.

These temporary jobs could help you to buy some extra Christmas presents and some of the roles could even lead to permanent employment.

Job site Indeed has found that the number of postings for Christmas roles began to increase at the end of August.

Pawel Adrjan, economist at global job site Indeed, said August is when employers start preparing their teams for the festive season.

He said: “Planning well ahead of such a busy and important period of the calendar is vital, and the benefits for recruiters are clear – candidate interest is at its highest per job posting in August and September, before the number of advertised jobs swells to its maximum.”

Here is a round up of some of the main retailers’ recruitment offers.

Royal Mail

The Royal Mail is looking for people to fill their seasonal roles and help to deliver the nation’s Christmas gifts.

Christmas is the busiest time of year for the postal service company with the increase in parcels and letters requiring a few thousand extra helping hands.

Temporary employees receive around £9.50 or £10.50 per hour.

There are a range of full and part time positions available and an option of early, late and night shifts from early November through until the New Year.

Primark

The retail industry will be looking to hire temporary employees as the festive period is the busiest time of year for shopping.

There are more than 350 different jobs available at the popular high-street shop including as retail assistants, visual merchandising and in the digital team.

Primark offer flexible working arrangements so students could top up their loans by working at the weekends and work more during the week in term time depending on lectures and deadlines.

Stockroom jobs are also up for grabs, which include flexible part time work.

A retail assistant at Primark gets £7.11 an hour.

Argos

Argos has plenty of roles across its 800 UK stores, such as in customer services and stockroom, as well as the driver roles.

The retailer say they are looking for “helpful, holly-jolly and hard-working people who can learn quickly, with a smile on their face”.

Drivers will need to collect orders from the stores and ensure that customers get their Christmas present on time.

They will get the added perk of driving around in a Mercedes Sprinter Van complete with advanced routing technology.

Argos pays around £8.50 an hour with some roles at £9.10.

Boots offers employees full training and a variety or shifts for all their seasonal opportunities.

The pharmacy chain offers full time and part time work on a fixed term contract.

Any role could develop into a permanent job and the beginning of a new career with Boots.

Employees are paid weekly, which could come in handy at Christmas.

The average Boots UK wage is £7.43 for a Sales Advisor and £9.37 for a Dispensing Assistant.

Boots tweeted today: “Have you seen our Christmas temporary vacancies are now live? We will be adding more vacancies over the coming weeks so make sure you keep checking in!”

John Lewis are looking for people to fill their seasonal job roles, which range from retail sales assistants to seasonal warehouse vacancies.

The retailer asks applicants to complete an online test and then you will be invited to an assessment centre if successful.

Seasonal staff are also able to ask their line managers about any permanent roles.

The retailer has 50 shops across the UK so applicants can find the most convenient shop to earn their Christmas pennies.

A retail stock assistant earns betwen £8.57 and £10.71 at the business.

Poundland has hundreds of jobs available across all its outlets, which include a store supervisor, a sales assistant and an area manager.

Poundland is extra busy at Christmas as it is full of savvy mums trying to pick up some stocking fillers so there are bound to be opportunities.

There are lots of options for those students wanting to pick up some term time work and those who want a full time temporary job in the holidays.

A sales assistant at Poundland gets £7.77 an hour.

The retailer, which is one of the nation’s biggest employers, is on the look out for sales assistants working in towns across the UK.

Some of the jobs involve night working and others the weekends.

There are 550 high street stores and 400 travel outlets at airports, train stations, hospital and motorway service areas across the UK.

A WHSmith counter clerk receives around £8/hour.

Debenhams has a selection of roles for seasonal workers from support centre to retail management to restaurant.

The flagship Oxford Street Debenhams store in London is seeking a Christmas Team who are able to “offer a great service to customers across all of the sales departments”.

The department store is hiring staff for its Christmas team who will offer work across all of the sales departments.

Its Christmas team jobs pay £8.21/hour and £6.64 for those under the age of 21.

Amazon employees in and around London can expect to earn at least £10.50/hour and £9.50/hour in the rest of the UK.

They have a variety of full-time, part-time and temporary work available across the country.

Amazon provides full training and various shift patterns.
