Watch Olivia Colman as the Queen in the first full teaser trailer for The Crown season three

We’ve seen what Olivia Colman looks like as the Queen, but now we also know what she sounds like. A new teaser trailer for the much-anticipated third season of The Crown has just been released by Netflix, in which we hear the actress mimicking the monarch’s voice for the first time.

The teaser trailer shows the unveiling of a new profile for the Royal Mail’s stamps; the original featuring the profile of Claire Foy as the Queen, and the new one Colman (also a nice way to nod to the changing of actresses and the passing of time between seasons).

The trailer opens with one of the royal household saying to the Queen: “Everyone’s delighted with the new profile ma’am, which we feel to be an elegant reflection of Her Majesty’s transition from young woman to…”

“Old bat?” the Queen interjects.

She then continues to say: “A great many changes. Nothing one can do about it. One just has to get on with it.”

The third and fourth seasons of The Crown will also see Helena Bonham Carter replace Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, and Tobias Menzies take on the role of Prince Philip, previously played by Matt Smith. It will also see Gillian Anderson join the cast as Margaret Thatcher.

The last series – set in the late 1950s and early ’60s – explored the Queen and Prince Philip’s tumultuous relationship, as well as documenting the events that led to Princess Margaret’s wedding to Lord Snowdon. Season three jumps ahead to the 1970s when the Queen and Philip will be in their 50s, which is the reason for hiring an entirely new cast.

Colman recently described succeeding Foy as a “horrendous” experience, as the actress was so well-loved and critically acclaimed in the role.

“It’s horrendous,” the Fleabag star told Entertainment Weekly. “Everyone loves Claire Foy, so I have got the worst job in the world at the moment!”

The Crown season three is set to air on Netflix on Sunday 17 November.
