‘Young woman’ hit by car in Wrexham and airlifted to hospital in Liverpool

A woman has been flown to hospital after being hit by a car in Wrexham town centre.

The casualty was flown to Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool after she was struck by the car on Regent Street in the town at around 12pm.

The extent of her injuries has not been disclosed.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called today at approximately 12pm to reports of a road traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Regent Street, Wrexham .

“We responded with one emergency ambulance, two rapid response vehicles and the crew were supported by Wales Air Ambulance .

“One patient was transported to the University Hospital, Aintree by Wales Air Ambulance .”

Police closed off the road and asked motorists to avoid the area while they carried out investigations into the crash.

A large cordon was put into place near the Royal Mail sorting office while traffic officers investigated the incident.

On Twitter, the force said: “Following an earlier accident, Regent Street is closed between the roundabout at B&Ms and the town centre.

“It is expected to be closed for some time.

“Please avoid the area where possible.”

While the road was closed, police carried out skid tests and yellow markers were placed on the road while officers investigated what happened.

Anthony White, who witnessed the aftermath of the incident, said: “It had only just happened and I saw a young woman on the floor.

“There were medics and police everywhere.

“It was such a shame to see and I hope she’s ok.”

Traffic jams formed after police cordoned the roads off at the Plas Coch Road Roundabout, one end of Crispin Lane and Regent Street not far from the Royal Mail office.

The road reopened just before 4pm.
