Meghan Markle has been praised as an ‘inspiration’ by Michelle Obama for her charity work.

In an Instagram post, the former First Lady, 55, penned a touching tribute to the Duchess of Sussex, 38, and commended her work during the 10-day royal tour of Africa.

Alongside a photograph of the royal attending a reception for Young People at the Residence of the British High Commissioner in Cape Town, Michelle Obama wrote:

‘Thank you to my friend, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex, a thoughtful leader who is breaking the mold and making our world better for it.

‘Whether meeting with our leaders or helping girls around the world seek the education they deserve, she is an inspiration to so many.’

Meghan, who arrived in Africa with husband Prince Harry and their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, four months, on Monday, made an empowering speech on the first day.

She addressed a crowd of teenage girls and said: ‘While I’m here with my husband as a member of the royal family, I want you to know from me I am here with you as a mother, as a wife, as a woman, as a woman of colour and as your sister.’

The royal couple have since visited a Justice Desk initiative in Nyanga township, which teaches children about their rights, self-awareness and safety, and provides self-defence classes and female empowerment training to young girls in the community.

And yesterday, Meghan embarked on a solo engagement, meeting with Mothers2Mothers – a Cape Town charity that trains and employs mothers with HIV.

Michelle Obama’s sweet message, which has been liked over 404k times, comes just weeks after the Duchess of Sussex earned a mark of approval from Hillary Clinton, who praised the former Suits actress for being an inspiration to her and so many others.

Hillary, 71, similarly took to Instagram to gush about Meghan’s work with Smart Works, U.K-based charity that provides clothes and coaching to unemployed women in need.

‘I’m so inspired by how Meghan Markle—aka one half of @sussexroyal—is representing the U.S. in the U.K. and on the world stage,’ the former presidential candidate wrote of the 38-year-old royal.

‘Meghan’s new project: Helping @SmartWorksCharity equip women who have been out of the workforce with the office essentials they need to feel confident in job interviews and beyond.’

Hillary, who is known for her love of power suits, added: ‘The ability to earn their own paycheck is a key part of women’s economic, social, and cultural equality, and it can all start with some smart suits.
