Wightlink appoints new Isle of Wight port operations manager

AN ISLE of Wight man will be bringing local knowledge to his new role as head of Island port operations for Wightlink.

After 13 years with Royal Mail, Martin Gulliver from Newport has swapped managing busy delivery offices along the south coast for Wightlink’s three busy Island ferry terminals.

Martin, who has strong roots on the Island with ancestors dating back to the 1500s, is now responsible for the day-to-day operations of Wightlink’s Yarmouth, Fishbourne and Ryde ports.

Martin said: “Having grown up on the Isle of Wight, it is great to be working for a company that plays such an important role in Island life.

“I’m really enjoying the challenge of working for one of the UK’s largest domestic ferry operators and love the fact that every day brings something new.

“One of the things that has surprised me most in the new job is the variety of vehicles that travel across the Solent – everything from classic American muscle cars to steam trains.”

When not at work keeping the Island’s ports running smoothly, Martin can be found at home with his four children and two step-children, as well as young foster children that he and his wife look after.

He has an interest in the many community and sporting groups that Wightlink supports through its charity and sponsorship schemes, having recently paid a visit to Newport Boxing Club to meet young people taking part in a sparring session.

Martin’s employment in the role follows the equivalent appointment of Arron Taylor from Hampshire to run day-to-day port operations at Lymington and Portsmouth.
