Watch the Burton video that has gone viral for all the right reasons

A truly touching video from Burton  has taken the internet by storm and is raking in the views.

The clip, created by Burton group Light Project promotes the use of a type of sign language called Makaton sees a number of groups and businesses across the town signing along to a song.

It has notched  more than 110,000 views in just one month since being uploaded to its Facebook page at the end of September.

The video is called “Something Inside So Strong”, originally performed by Labi Siffre.

Multiple clips are shown of various groups, individuals, children and adults from in and around Burton signing along with the music.

Sections of the video show participants in the recording booth and across the area taking part.

Many businesses and organisations in Burton took part in the video, including Tesco, Co-operative Food, Staffordshire Police and Royal Mail.

Swadlincote singer Kirby Frost, who featured on TV singing show The Voice in 2018, performed as part of the song, while support and recording studios were given by Chris White, of Piggyback Studios, in Newhall.

The Light Project was set up by members of Burton’s Independent Learning Centre, in Rosliston Road, and Stapenhill’s Hill Lodge Residential Home.

A Facebook page was set up in a bid to “promote social inclusion for those with communication difficulties” in the town.

Organiser Ashleigh Smyth-Osbourne said she was “blown away” by the positive reaction the video has received.

She said: “When it came to pressing the button and uploading it, we didn’t know what it would do. We weren’t sure what would happen.

“In the first 24 hours it got 5,000 views. Then with all the shares it grew from there, it’s a bit like a tree branching off, growing and growing.

“I’m actually have a bit of disbelief about the fact people have embraced it so well.

“Even if out of the people who watch the video, just 10 per cent of the people actually learn how to just say hello in sign language, it would make such a difference to these people.

“We’ve had all positive feedback, it’s actually really encouraging, people want to see it.”

Minds behind the video have even said after the success of this one they will be looking to do another in the future.

Back in May members of the Light Project group carried out a relay ride from Lands’ End to John o’ Groats, which raised £2,500 for three charities.
