Royal Mail is gearing up to go to court in a bid to block potential strikes by postal workers during the general election and the crucial Christmas period.

It said it is seeking an interim order to block the strike ballot, which was overwhelmingly supported by union members in October.

Elsewhere, British Airways’ owner IAG has reported an upturn in passenger numbers for last month, although the pace of growth of slowed. 

Meanwhile, High Street sales collapsed in the last week of October amid political upheaval as retailers face a ‘perfect storm’ in the crucial Christmas trading period, new figures from the BDO High Street Sales Tracker suggest.
