Cottage that did stamp duty is on sale for £625k

A ‘QUINTESSENTIALLY English’ cottage that once appeared on a commemorative stamp has gone on the market for £625,000.

The Maltings was chosen by the Royal Mail to mark its 350th anniversary in 1985 because of its historic Tudor facade — and the red post box built into a wall outside.

The Grade II-listed property in the village of Boxford, Suffolk, was built around 1490 for a wealthy cloth merchant. The businessman also owned the property next door which was used as a workshop.

The buildings were later divided into three homes and in more recent years the mid-terrace has been owned by a couple who have given it a makeover. The upstairs has surprisingly high ceilings because that was where the merchant stored his wool. Overall, the property has a kitchen/breakfast room, lounge, dining room, garden room and four bedrooms over three floors. There’s also a garage and garden.
