Princess Eugenie married her beau Jack Brooksbank in their stunning royal wedding last October. Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s eldest daughter Princess Beatrice will follow suit next spring, after her boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi proposed this autumn. However, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall did not attend the princess’ nuptials last year.
The Daily Mail’s royal correspondent Richard Kay wrote at the time: “I can disclose that Camilla sent a handwritten letter to Eugenie apologising for being unable to attend.”
A friend told Mr Kay: “She is fond of Eugenie and her sister Beatrice, and is very disappointed that she cannot be there.”
However, there were some conflicting opinions over why Camilla was not at the wedding.
Officially, Camilla was in the Court Circular as attending and event at Crathie primary school, the tiny school on the grounds of the Queen’s estate at Balmoral.
However, a local told Mr Kay: “We are used to seeing the royals out and about – they are part of the Crathie community – and frankly they could drop in at any time.
“I don’t think anyone would have been too startled if the engagement was cancelled because of the wedding.”
Other reports in The Telegraph, however, suggested that there was something else behind Camilla’s absence.
A royal insider said: “The truth is that Camilla has a house party for a few friends. They are arriving on Friday and will be there over the weekend.

“The Queen listens to Andrew and he could have helped his brother at a time when he had few allies within the family.
“In fact, I would go so far as to say he was deeply unhelpful when support would have meant a huge amount to her and the Prince.
“Looking back to when there was little public sympathy for Charles and Camilla, if not open hostility, it was a case of Andrew playing politics.
“Camilla hasn’t forgotten.”
