Last postage dates for Christmas 2019

There’s nothing like a Christmas card from a loved one to make us feel festive. Nearly eight in 10 of us say that giving Christmas cards is our favourite way of spreading festive cheer, according to research by the Royal Mail.

Whilst Christmas is an exciting time, there’s lots of preparation involved for the big day, and smaller details can slip your mind. For example, you might have some Christmas cards, or even the odd gift, lying around that you’ve forgotten to post.

Unfortunately, you’ve missed for sending second class post in the UK, as The Post Office recommends you send second class items no later than Wednesday 18 December. But, you still have time to post your items using a different service…

• 1st Class – last recommended postage date Friday 20 December.
• 1st Class Signed For – last recommended postage date Friday 20 December.
• Special Delivery Guaranteed – last recommended postage date Monday 23 December.

Parcelforce – last posting dates for Christmas

For large parcels…

• Express 48 – last recommended postage date Friday 20 December.
• Express 48 large – last recommended postage date Friday 20 December.
• Express 24 – last recommended postage date Monday 23 December.
• Express 24 large – last recommended postage date Monday 23 December.
• Timed Services (express9, express10, expressAM, expressPM) – last recommended postage date Monday 23 December.

Amazon – last posting dates for Christmas

For last-minute gifts directly to their door…

• Free delivery – last day Friday 20 December.
• Standard delivery – last day Sunday 22 December (by midday).
• One-Day delivery – last day Monday 23 December.
• Same-day delivery – last day Tuesday 24 December.
• Prime Now 2-hour delivery – last day Tuesday 24 December.

GHI TIP: The Post Office and stationery stores, such as WH Smith, Paperchase and Ryman, aren’t the only places you can buy stamps. You may not have realised that you can add stamps to your online supermarket shop, or print stamps at home. Use the Royal Mail’s Click and Drop service to do this and post items in any mailbox. Just make sure your get the scales out to check the weight of the item you’re sending first.
