Since the 2019 programs of the U.S. Mint and U.S. Postal Service are both finished for the year, it may be useful to cover a recent issue by the British Post Office with an American theme.

In late November, the Royal Mail issued a third set of stamps noting the characters in the long-running Star Wars movie series. The latest issue consisted of 16 stamps, including pictures of characters played by American actors Natalie Portman, Billy Dee Williams and Keri Russell.

Noted British actors depicted as their Star Wars characters include Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Earlier Star Wars British stamp groups were issued in 2015 and 2017. The U.S. agent for Royal Mail stamps is Interpost, of Hewlett. N.Y.

There are no nearby stamp or coin shows this weekend.

The U.S, Postal Service has issued a list of stamps that will be withdrawn from sale on Dec. 31. They include the following issues, all panes of 20 stamps unless otherwise indicated: Special Olympics, Jaime Escalante, Star Trek, Art of Magic, 2016 Kwanzaa, National Parks pane of 16, Service Cross Medals pane of 12, and 2017 U.S. Flag pane of 18,

Also Love Flourishes, Classics Forever pane of six, 2016 World Stamp Show pane of 24, Elvis Presley pane of 16, Medal of Honor Vietnam War pane of 24, Gifts of Friendship pane of 12, Nativity double- sided pane, Frozen Treats, Patriotic Spiral coil of 10,000, Penguins coil of 100, Art Deco bird coils, and spectrum eagle coil.
