UK independent supplier of mailroom technology, The Mailing Room of Bury, Greater Manchester, has completed its biggest corporate acquisition to date, buying out Dunstable-based Digital Post Solutions (DPS) and adding around 40% to its growing user base.
“Although digital substitution of letters and cards has impacted on the domestic postal market, the business sector is still holding up well,” says The Mailing Room’s Group MD, Ian Davidson. “Mail is seen as a medium of authority in the business world, for circulating invoices, membership drives, electoral notices, confidential healthcare information and the like, while commercial emails have been hampered by the impact of GDPR and the need to obtain consent.
“At the same time,” he continues, “Royal Mail parcel traffic has risen almost 6% and more independent carriers are entering the market. So, with parcel shipping volumes on the rise, multi-carrier usage the norm, and increasing shipping fees and size ratings, hard-pressed business users need technology that takes the guesswork out of parcel and package shipping.”
To this end, TMR has introduced an innovative range of automated parcel shipping solutions, which also give access to the best possible delivery rates. For business letters, it offers a whole range of Mailmark-enabled franking machines, powered by market leaders Pitney Bowes and Neopost, which maximise mailroom productivity and save a third on postage stamps. Whilst for bulk mailings, its folder-inserters compile and monitor content to ensure security for the recipient, fill envelopes and stack them ready for franking, greatly outstripping manual procedures for speed and efficiency.
“Today’s mailroom technology, including the latest all-in-one solutions, has a lot to offer busy organisations and we can provide them with resources that install the latest equipment, keep it operating smoothly, supply the essential inks, labels and spares, and minimise downtime,” concludes Davidson.
One of the DPS joint founders, Terry Smart, is retiring, although his co-founder, Mark Steele, and fellow director, James Johnson, are joining TMR to help grow the newly-amalgamated business and integrate DPS accounts into the organisation. Members of the DPS service and operations team, including Operations Manager, Peter Thompson, and Account Manager, David Smith, are also switching to TMR, ensuring continuity of service.
