Queen health latest: Queen pictured wrapping up warm during reunion with Prince Philip | Royal | News

The 93-year-old monarch was pictured driving through the Sandringham Estate with her 98-year-old husband Prince Philip accompanying Princess Anne as she drove through the same stretch of land. The Queen was forced to pull out of a regular Women’s Institute meeting on Thursday at West Newton Village hall, which she attends every year. This raised further concerns about her health, but a Buckingham Palace spokesman said Her Majesty had a “slight cold”, while insiders claimed it was “no cause for alarm”.

Prince Harry has arrived in Canada following a ten-hour flight to Vancouver, before he boarded a WestJey plane to make the short trip onto Vancouver Island to join his wife Meghan Markle and son Archie Harrison.

But he missed brother Prince Williams’s first solo reception at Buckingham Palace, where he ushered in a new era for the royals.

The Duke of Cambridge also mentioned Harry in his speech.

William said: “The African continent holds a very special place in my heart. It is the place my father took my brother and me shortly after our mother died.”

The Queen had been forced to call off the royal engagement at the Women’s Institute meeting just half-an-hour before she was due to arrive.

During her yearly visit to the Women’s Institute, Her Majesty usually enjoys tea and cake with the ladies members of the association.

This annual visit is particularly important for the monarch, who has been attending meetings at the Women’s Institute since 1943.

On that year, she took over as President of the association from Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

The role was passed on to the Queen Mother by King George V’s widow, Queen Mary.

But the palace were quick to reassure royal experts the reasons for the Queen’s withdrawal from this year’s event was nothing more than her suffering from a serious cold.

The Daily Mail royal correspondent Rebecca English wrote: “No cause for alarm, I am assured.”

A common cold is not usually a cause for worry, however one medical expert warned elderly people must “treat properly” this illness.

Pharmacist Shamir Patel, founder of Chemist 4 U, told Express.co.uk: “When your body is young, fit and healthy, it’s often no problem to fight off a light cold, but in an elderly person, it poses a higher risk.

“A common cold can last much longer, and is also more likely to lead to something more serious.

“It’s therefore important that a cold in the elderly is treated properly.

“The sooner the symptoms are treated, the better, as it will help to minimise any complications, such as pneumonia – which is one of the top ten leading causes of death among the elderly.

“The signs include a headache, fever, dry cough, muscle pain and exhaustion.

“A common cold can also pose the threat of other conditions becoming worse, such as asthma, heart disease and COPD, while patients are also more likely to become dehydrated, especially when they live an active lifestyle.”

The Queen was last seen in public on Sunday, when she attended a service with her son Prince Andrew.

Her Majesty travelled to Norfolk on December 20, and is set to remain there until February 6 – the birthday of her late father, King George VI.

The latest health concerns sweeping through the Royal Family comes after Prince Philip was taken to hospital just days before Christmas.

He spent four nights at King Edward VII hospital in central London and was discharged on Christmas Eve, before being flown back to Sandringham by helicopter.

The latest pictures of the Queen and Prince Philip come as Prince Edward and Lady Louise were seen riding horses through the Great Windsor Park earlier today.

Prince Andrew was also seen talking with a friend as a ran through the park this morning.
