  • Mr Mortl said: ‘You will always have a smile on your face when you see a nice run’

A death-defying snowboarder has used a helmet camera to capture breathtaking footage of him flying down a mountain while performing jumps.

Sascha Mortl, 30, from Villach, Austria, filmed himself going down the slopes of Carinthia in southern Austria.

He is seen whizzing down the mountain at such speed that flecks of snow are thrown into the air as the edge of his board cuts through the drift.

Mr Mortl slaloms through dangerous rocks with ease while shooting down the slope.

Once he is through the areas of thick snow he’s seen zooming down the mountain before performing death-defying stunts.

At one point he leaps through the air over a rope before doing a barrel roll-type jump.

He lands smoothly and continues on his course, going up to high edges of snow and jumping off.

Mr Mortl records most of his snowboarding experiences with a GoPro attached to his helmet so he can see his work from a different perspective and keep a record of it.

He told StoryTrender: ‘This video was recorded on a glacier in the south of Austria.

‘It’s always fun to see your run afterwards from a different perspective, sometimes it looks better than expected and sometimes worse.

‘You can save your adventures to look at them in the future and you will always have a smile on your face when you see a nice run from the past.’
