Royal Mail strike looms as union rebuffs 6% pay offer | Business

A new pay offer by Royal Mail to postal workers was dismissed as a stunt by its trade union last night, which said it was an attempt to derail a ballot that could lead to the first national strike in a decade.

Royal Mail said it had put forward a 6 per cent pay rise over the next three years to the Communication Workers Union, which represents about 100,000 postal workers, more than two thirds of the workforce.

The company said the offer added up to a pay rise of more than 16 per cent between 2018 and 2023 when including plans for a shorter working week. However, it said the offer only stood if the CWU signed up to a £1.8 billion transformation plan
