Royal Hotel Hull evacuated with fire engines at the scene

A city centre hotel has been evacuated with at least two fire engines at the scene.

Witnesses in Ferensway reported seeing a large crowd of people waiting near the cenotaph across the road from the Royal Hull Hotel, with two fire engines outside.

One woman said: “I just walked over from St Stephen’s and there’s two fire engines and people stood waiting near the cenotaph and in front of the hotel on Ferensway.”

A spokeswoman for Humberside Fire and Rescue said they had sent two crews to the scene after receiving a call at 1.23pm.

The evacuation comes on the same day that St Stephen’s shopping centre was itself briefly closed this morning with over 100 people forced to wait outside following reports of a fire.
