Prince Charles at Jesus College in Oxford

SCHOOL children cheered as Prince Charles arrived at Jesus College in Oxford this afternoon.

Pupils from three Welsh schools gave the Prince daffodils as he entered the college grounds.

He met College Fellows, students and alumni.

The Prince was escorted to Hall where he met specially-invited group of College alumni and members, including the newly appointed Jesus Chair of Celtic Dr David Willis.

He was also shown a medieval book called The Red Book of Hergest, believed to have been written sometime between 1375 and 1425.

Oxford Mail:

His Royal Highness was treated to a recital of the Gweddi Coleg Iesu, a Welsh Prayer sung by members of the student consort choir directed by Peter Parshall, the chapel music coordinator.

Anna Cowling, 22, who studies French and German at Jesus College said before he arrived: “We were told last week that Prince Charles was coming, some were more excited than others, but I just thought why not come and see him.

“Didn’t really want to miss the opportunity and also to celebrate the new chair of celtic which is why he’s coming. I think it’s really important for the college because it’s traditionally the Welsh college and it’s really important that this is continuing with the tradition of it being Welsh and having this new Chair of Celtic.”

Oxford Mail:

Some primary school pupils were lucky enough to speak to the Prince as he walked past the crowd of college students, staff and Fellows.

One pupil said: “I was very anxious when speaking to him, my legs were shaking. I said, ‘pleasure to meet you your highness’. I was really excited to meet him because he’s part of the Royal family.”
