Breitling And Bentley Get Sporty With A New Continental GT Mulliner And Matching Timepiece

This is one of the sportiest Breitling Bentley watches to ever appear in the long collaboration between the two companies, but then so is the car it commemorates, the sporty Bentley Continental GT Mulliner Convertible.

The design of the Breitling Premier Bentley Mulliner Limited Edition chronograph is closely linked to the interior of the Continental GT Mulliner, particularly to the Breitling clock in the luxury automobile’s dashboard. In 2002, Bentley commissioned Breitling to create an onboard clock for its new grand tourer, which made its debut in 2003.  So far, the Mulliner Convertible is the only Continental GT to have a Breitling-edition clock in the car. Like the dashboard clock, the new watch has a silver dial with the same Arabic numeral font. The dial is highlighted with blue, red, and white accents, to highlight the colors in the British flag. The seconds hand and the 60-minute scale are red, as is the stitching found throughout the interior cabin of the Bentley Continental GT Mulliner Convertible. The chronograph minutes counter, small seconds subdials and leather strap are all blue, echoes the imperial blue leather interior of the car. A plate on the case side is engraved with a “Bentley” inscription, with a design based on the engine spin dashboard found in historic Bentleys.

Bentley’s Mulliner workshop is where the company makes its most unique tailor-made models. It is an extension of Mulliner, a family company that can be traced back to carriers and saddlers in 1559 which, in 1760, was commissioned to build and maintain carriages for the Royal Mail. In 1870, it became a coachbuilding company called Mulliner London Limited.

The positioning of the subdials on the watch references the type of movement it contains – the Breitling manufacture caliber 01, a COSC-certified chronometer with a 70-hour power reserve. The watch has a 42 mm stainless steel case with a crocodile leather strap – some with deployant buckles ($8,650) and some with tang-style buckles ($8,350). They are limited to 1,000 pieces altogether.
