Coronavirus case confirmed at Oxfordshire Royal Mail office

A CASE of Covid-19 has been confirmed at an Oxfordshire depot of Royal Mail.

The employee who tested positive for the potentially deadly virus is at home and receiving clinical advice, a spokesperson for the organisation confirmed today.

They said: “A colleague who works in one of our Oxfordshire sites has been diagnosed with the COVID-19 coronavirus.

“They came into work last week before feeling unwell.

“They returned home and took medical advice, then they tested positive for the virus.

“Our thoughts are with our colleague and their family and we wish them a speedy recovery.”

Royal Mail, however, will not be closing the Oxfordshire delivery office, instead a full clean of the facility was carried out in line with PHE guidelines.

The Oxford Mail was told by a source that the case was at the Royal Mail Delivery Office in Ock Street, Abingdon.

However, Royal Mail was not able to confirm the location of the branch.

In a bid to protect employees and customers across the UK, the Royal Mail announced last week it will temporarily stop handing over hand-held devices to customers to capture signatures.

Postmen and postwomen will instead log the name of the person accepting the item and sign on their behalf.
