Queen recycles turquoise coat and matching hat for the THIRD time for Trooping the Colour

The Queen recycled a turquoise coat and matching hat for the third time as she marked her official birthday with a socially-distanced and scaled down version of Trooping the Colour at Windsor Castle today.

Her Majesty, 94, was first pictured wearing the ensemble for day one of the US president Donald Trump and First Lady Melania’s three-day State Visit to the UK on June 3, 2019.

The royal then donned it for a second time at the State Opening of Parliament in December – following the Conservative party’s victory in the general election.

And many may recognise the textured coat because last year, the ensemble went viral after onlookers were divided over whether the outfit was blue or green.

Some took to Twitter to declare the royal was wearing blue to represent the Conservatives or even the Brexit party – while another asked if she was wearing green because she was quietly backing the party of the same name.

Last year, one person teased: ‘The Queen looks like the green triangle that no one eats at Christmas,’ while a second penned: ‘The Queen looks chuffed she’s wearing blue.’

Another argued: ‘I reckon Queen is in Brexit colours today? Better than the royal blue hat with yellow flowers after Ref2016’.

However, the Queen, who cut an equally elegant figure and completed her look with a pair of black patent shoes and her trusty Launer bag for her celebratory parade today – gave her outfit a subtle update by changing her brooch.

The royal, who even appeared to be wearing the same floral dress underneath her coat, accessorised with a coordinating pearl necklace and earrings – while putting safety first in a pair of white gloves.

The Queen also wore the same outfit during a welcome ceremony at Buckingham Palace in central London on June 3, 2019, on the first day of the US president and First Lady's three-day State Visit to the UK (pictured, together)

In line with Government advice, it was agreed that the Queen’s birthday parade, also known as Trooping the Colour, would not go ahead in its traditional form.

Instead, a small, brief, military ceremony took place – and was conducted in accordance with strict social distancing guidelines.

The Welsh Guards are currently stationed at Windsor Castle, and have played a key role in the military response to the coronavirus pandemic over the past months.

The proceedings took place in the presence of The Queen in the Quadrangle, where the Changing of the Guard is carried out when she is in official residence.

Upon arrival, Her Majesty received a royal salute, followed by a set of military drills, and a musical performance by a Band of the Household Division.

The ceremony was carried out by a detachment from the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, whose Colour was due to be trooped this year at The Queen’s Birthday Parade on Horse Guards.
