Adyen Amazon Pay support announced – will eBay Payments support?

Adyen Amazon Pay support has just been announced as a new payment method available in the UK, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Adyen Amazon Pay support will enable merchants to remove friction from the checkout process by allowing customers to use the information already stored in their Amazon account – without having to create an account, re-enter credit or debit card information, or type in their billing and shipping address. Adyen’s merchants can also access innovation in voice commerce through Delivery Notifications (except Royal Mail) via Amazon Alexa. This feature allows Adyen merchants to proactively notify customers when their Amazon Pay order is on its way or has arrived.

Now if you’re thinking what I’m thinking you’re already two steps ahead and know that Etsy use Adyen to power Etsy Payments, Notonthehighstreet use Adyen to power Notonthehighstreet payments, and eBay are about to launch Adyen to power eBay Payments in the UK… Sellers can already use Amazon FBA or Amazon Shipping to ship their eBay orders, so maybe soon buyers be able to use Amazon Pay to pay for purchases on eBay! It would be bizarre situation if when eBay Payments launch in the UK that their greatest rival suddenly started powering their payments using buyers’ Amazon credentials.

The reality is that marketplaces may well choose to request Amazon Pay blocked as an option. While eBay will welcome payments via Apple Pay and Google Pay in addition to credit cards, debit cards and PayPal, the last thing they would want is their sales data ending up in Amazon’s database. Imagine the cross referencing how much a consumer spends on eBay compared to how much they spend on Amazon and the sales frequency on each platform all wrapped up in the consumer’s Amazon Pay records.

If however you use Adyen to power your website payments then Adyen Amazon Pay support is now built in and can be available for your buyers to use from today.
