Furious neighbours say they’ve not had their post for seven weeks

Residents in part of Merseyside claim they still aren’t receiving any post or parcels – with some saying they’ve had nothing through their doors for as long as seven weeks.

Some people living within the L30 postcode claim they are still yet to receive any of their post from the Royal Mail.

Earlier this month, a number of Netherton residents contacted the ECHO to say they had been waiting for post and parcels from the likes of eBay for “well over a month”.

However, a spokesperson for the Royal Mail denied the claims that mail had been delayed for more than a month. The postal service also said it was “working hard to deliver the most comprehensive service we can to all our customers in challenging circumstances”.

More than a week later, people living in the area say the issue hasn’t been resolved.

One man, on Gorsey Lane, said: “We are now entering the fifth week with no mail. I haven’t seen a post man or woman for weeks.

“I’m expecting upwards of 20 parcels from eBay, not to mention bills and important letters. It’s not acceptable.”

Another man on the same road said: “It’s getting beyond a joke now. I have mail going back to March still not received. I have tried all means of contact and complaint and to no avail.

“We have had no mail for seven weeks now other than one broadband leaflet .. How can they say there is no issue with the post?

And a third added: “We’ve had absolutely nothing through in weeks.”

One woman, who lives on Marian Way, said: “I got loads Saturday and Sunday, some from the end of May and beginning of June! Think I might actually be up to date now.”

Another, who lives on Stonyfield, said: “I had all my mail from May delivered on Friday and I’ve never seen so many parcels and mail!”

Other people living in the L20 area said they had been receiving post and parcels without any problems and on time.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “From the start of this crisis, we always said that despite our best endeavours, it is possible that some areas of the country may experience a reduction in service levels due to coronavirus-related absences at their local mail centre or delivery office.

“Following a number of absences in the Liverpool Delivery Office, service levels are now running close to normal. We have been working hard to deliver the most comprehensive service we can to all our customers in challenging circumstances throughout this period.

“We have introduced a number of social distancing measures to our operation to offer further protection for our colleagues and our customers. We are proud of all our colleagues across the UK for helping to keep the nation connected in such challenging circumstances. We always endeavour to keep our customers as informed as we can of any changes to our services. We have a dedicated section on our website https://www.royalmail.com/coronavirus.

“We thank customers for their patience during this difficult time.”
