THE police have urged people to only use the 999 number for essential calls, after someone called them to complain about the council giving them a parking ticket.
The West Yorkshire Police Contact Management Centre often tweet some of the more unusual phone calls they receive from the general public.
The force receives 120 inappropriate calls each day, adding one is too many, as part of its #Not999 campaign.
And this tweet was no exception after a 999 call by a desperate driver.
Here is the Contact Centre’s tweet in full:
You cannot ring 999 as you aren’t happy your local council have given you a parking ticket. #Not999 #NotAPoliceMatter

These follow a number of different occasions earlier this year when people have wrongly used the service for more unusual calls.
One yesterday from someone calling to make an enquiry about their car insurance, another was made to police by someone who had spotted a mobile phone left on their doorstep.
A caller claimed they were thirsty after being unable to go in a shop due to customer number restrictions.
One person called the service to enquire about opening times for Asda during lockdown, while another wanted officers to help remove a snake from their home.
Someone used the service to complain about Royal Mail not delivering their parcel after they had initially given them the wrong postcode.
