The royal family is celebrating Princess Anne’s life on Instagram ahead of her 70th birthday on Saturday. 

The Firm’s official Instagram account has dedicated today’s story to the Princess Royal’s 20s, from 1970 to 1980.

It highlighted the first charity Anne ever worked with, Save The Children UK, which led her to visit Kenya in 1971 during her first ever solo royal tour, aged 21. 

The story also applauded her success as an equestrian, Olympian and member of the British Eventing Team.

Also diving into Anne’s personal life, the story shared a picture of the princess royal’s wedding to Captain Mark Phillips, which took place on 14 November 1973. 

The children she shared with her first husband, Peter Phillips, 42 and Zara Tindall, 39, also made an appearance in the story with some adorable pictures of them as toddlers.

Princess Anne will turn 70 on Saturday, the occasion for the Royal family to celebrate her many achievements and share them with the public. 

The Instagram story informed royal fans that today would be dedicated to the royal’s 20s, which started in 1970 with a royal tour of Australia with the Duke of Edinburgh, The Queen and Prince Charles. 

During the same trip, the royal family also travelled to Fiji and Tonga as well as new Zealand. It was Princess Anne’s first tour of Australia and the Prince of Wales’ second official visit. Charles visited Australia in 1966 for schooling purposes, and returned in a more official capacity in 1967. 

This was the first of many oversea trips for Anne, who, according to the Royal Family, has since then conducted 480 overseas engagements.

In 1971, she was named the BBC’s Sport Personality of the year and Britain’s Sportswoman of the Year for her equestrian talents. 

Anne was a member of the British Eventing Team for five years, where she competed in dressage, cross country and show jumping in three-day events.

She earned a gold medal during the 1971 individual eventing discipline and silver in both individual and team disciplines in 1975. 

In 1976, she became the first ever member of the royal family to compete at the Olympics, riding the Queen’s steed Goodwill at the Montreal Olympics.

Taking a look at the royal’s personal life, the Instagram story shared a snap of her 14 November 1973 wedding to her first husband and father of her children Captain Mark Phillips. 

The couple were wed at Westminster Abbey in a tasteful ceremony. Anne wore a beautiful embroiderd ‘Tudor-style’ wedding dress with a high collar and long sleeves, which was designed by Maureen Baker.   

The couple had two children, which the Instagram story mentioned as well. 

Peter Phillips, now 42 and a father-of-two, was born in 1977. The story shared an adorable picture of the working royal as an infant, resting in his mother’s arms as the Queen perches over her daughter’s shoulder to look at her grandson. 

Zara Tindall, 39, born in 1981 and now a mother-of-two, was also featured in the story in an adorable picture showing her as a baby and Phillip as a toddler. The pair are both dressed in white and smiling to the camera. 

Princess Anne divorced Mark Phillips in 1992, during the Queen’s Annus Horribilis. She remarried that same year, tying the knot with Sir Timothy Laurence, who was equerry to the Queen from 1986 to 1989. 

The story ended on a gorgeous picture of Princess Anne in a blue and ocre blouse, promising to dedicate tomorrow’s story to Anne’s life in the 1980s.
