A postman has been praised for his efforts to save a Brookfield Estate man who’d had a heart attack.
Royal Mail delivery worker Les Furesz was alerted to the situation by a neighbour, and asked the victim’s wife to call emergency services while he used his previous Territorial Army training to administer first aid.

Les said: “[The victim’s wife] said she thought her husband seemed to have had a heart attack and that there was no response from him at all and that he’d stopped breathing.
“I just carried on and carried on – and the lady stayed on the phone with the emergency response team relaying everything they said straight to me.
“He’s got a fighting chance and he’s fighting hard, I just hope and pray he recovers.”

The man was taken to hospital in Blackpool to receive acute care after the ambulance arrived in 15 minutes.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) reported earlier in the week that the man was still in a coma.
The CWU praised Les for how he responded in the situation.
Mike Furbur, CWU unit rep at Preston CDO, said: “Les is a credit to this office, to Royal Mail and to the CWU – and we all send our prayers and very best wishes to this gentleman and his family.”
