Police search two Royal Mail sorting offices after ‘suspicious package’ reports

Police are searching two Royal Mail sorting offices after ‘suspicious package’ reports.

Avon and Somerset Police said specialist officers attended offices in Bath and Filton in the early hours of this morning.

In a statement police said: “At 2.17am this morning we were made aware of reports of a suspicious package at the Royal Mail sorting office in Filton.

“Specialist officers attended and established the package could have been transported to the Bath delivery office.

“Searches are currently being carried out at both locations.

“We don’t believe there to be any risk to the public but ask people avoid the area while the searches take place.”

Police were called to the Filton sorting office in the early hours of this morning

A video uploaded to Twitter shows numerous Royal Mail workers waiting outside the building on Gloucester Road North having apparently been evacuated.

Trains running from the nearby Bristol Parkway station have also been delayed due to a police incident this morning – although it is unclear at this stage whether the two incidents are linked.
