A bomb disposal unit has been called to the Royal Mail delivery office in Bath this morning (Friday, September 11) amid reports of a “suspicious package” being transported there.
Police were first called to the depot in Filton at 2.17am after an alarm was raised about a possible package.
Searches have been taking place at the depots in Filton and Bath after it was established that the object could have been delivered to the city.
Railway Place and Manvers Street have been cordoned off by police while searches continue.
Pictures taken at the scene this morning show police and forensic officers examining cargo at the delivery office along with a bomb disposal unit.

In a statement, a spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: “At 2.17am this morning we were made aware of reports of a suspicious package at the Royal Mail sorting office in Filton.
“Specialist officers attended and established the package could have been transported to the Bath delivery office.
“Searches are currently being carried out at both locations.
“We don’t believe there to be any risk to the public but ask people avoid the area while the searches take place.”
A nearby Post Office depot in Bristol has also been evacuated as a result of the incident, which a spokeswoman for the company described as a “bomb threat”.
A spokeswoman said: “Police are investigating a bomb threat at the Bristol Mail Centre. This premises is owned by Royal Mail, not Post Office.
“We do have a nearby depot and staff have been asked by police to evacuate the area along with other local businesses.”
Royal Mail has been contacted for comment.
